The course was established in 2009 to provide structured tuition leading to the qualifying examinations for advocates or solicitors in Jersey. Most students taking the course do so while working in a Jersey law office.
The course (or individual modules from it) is also open to other people with a background in law who want to study Jersey law out of personal interest or because a knowledge of law would be of help in their careers.
The course consists of five core modules and three option modules. The whole course can be taken in one, two or three years.
For each module, students are provided with a study guide, there are two or three intensive study weekends and revision tuition, and a virtual learning environment. Tuition is provided by a team of visiting and adjunct professors.
There are two semesters. The first runs from September to December; the second from January to May. Examinations are held in late June and early July; a second examination period is held in September.
